BioThe Reason For This Journal - Dreams, Hopes, Fears, and Absolute Wonder
My name is Eren Baykal. I'm 20, and I'm currently studying Japanese in my year abroad. I will be studying at Sophia University （上智大学）for the course of the year, and have no idea what lies in store for me. The purpose of this journal is to catalogue the events of the year, in the hope I can leave memories of a distant dream which is about to become reality. I have a profound love of kanji, and focus on the reading and translation aspects of Japanese the most, my weakest ability being speaking. Thus, this year should be a good opportunity for me to try and survive out in the "wild" of Tokyo (though I imagine it'd be relatively easy compared to some of my classmates in Hokkaido O.O)
As for my interests, I became engrossed with anime as a child, and am still very much into it, it's pretty much the main reason now why I love Japanese. However, for those that might doubt this all too common path, I don't limit myself to just that - I've taken a deep interest in igo (the ancient Chinese board game) and the long and artful process of learning kanji has drawn me in completely. I'm sure that the experience I gain in Japan is NOT going to leave me.
